I COULD HAVE BEEN A RICH MAN
Once I was a millionaire,
but when the stock market collapsed
I found myself to be a mere thousandaire,
sitting home alone in my underwear.
The stars have become invisible, and
will no longer shine on the likes of me.
My buttercup, whose presence intoxicates
the air that I breathe won’t love me anymore.
Hunger may be waiting just around the corner.
I could lease a Cadillac and feel rich again—
bragging about how smart I was to sell out
moments before I had to kiss my ass goodbye.
